It is typically performed by a woman with midriff exposed. This emphasizing movements of the pelvis and abdominal muscles. Involving undulating movements of the belly, and rapid hip movement the 'shimmy'. Long skirts are often worn sometimes many skirts are worn. and big pantaloons under their skirts! There are multiple styles of belly dance. Newer forms and other folk or popular dance styles are merged to create a belly dance fusion. The most common Belly dance styles practiced are Egyptian Style, Lebanese Style, Turkish Style, American Tribal Style, Tribal Fusion, Most belly dancers work with many styles to create their own signature look sometimes belly dance is just called Middle Eastern dancing.
